What Is the Masterpiece “Zodiac”?
“Zodiac” is a colour lithograph first published in 1896 as a calendar for the Paris printer “F. Champenois.”
Twelve astrological signs form a halo around the profile of an elegant woman, blending astrology with natural beauty in a striking composition.
Flowing hair, botanical ornamentation, and a gentle inner glow draw the viewer into an almost dream-like realm.
The design was later reused as a calendar for the art magazine La Plume and is regarded as one of Mucha’s signature works.
A deluxe edition decorated with gold leaf also exists, and its elegance and symbolism continue to captivate audiences today.

About the Artist Alphonse Mucha
Alphonse Maria Mucha (1860 – 1939) was a Czech painter and decorative artist who helped spread the Art Nouveau style around the globe.
His breakthrough came in 1894 with the poster “Gismonda” for actress Sarah Bernhardt, after which he produced many celebrated posters and decorative panels while based in Paris.
Known for radiant female figures, plant motifs and graceful curves, he established a distinctive “Mucha style.”
In later years he devoted himself to the monumental cycle The Slav Epic, portraying the history of his homeland.
